It is the fastest power test and power builder we own, and it costs nothing but floor space.

Table of Contents

Broad Jump Exercise: Execution Standards

200+ FCS Combat Application

How to Structure Your Broad Jump Training

Common Mistakes

Safety Notes

Benefits

Programming & Progression

Frequently Asked Questions

Related Exercises

Broad Jump Exercise: Execution Standards

Stand with feet hip-width apart, toes just behind your start line. Ribs down, eyes on the landing zone.

Load: push your hips back, bend the knees, swing your arms behind you — like a spring compressing.

Explode: drive through the whole foot, launch forward and slightly up, arms swinging hard overhead.

In the air, extend your body fully, then pull your feet forward underneath you for the landing.

Land on both feet at the same time, knees bending to absorb — sink into a quarter squat, chest tall.

Stick the landing dead still for two seconds. No steps, no wobble, no falling forward. Walk back. That is one rep.

200+ FCS Combat Application

In the 200+ FCS roadmap, Broad Jump belongs to Phase 1.1 (Strength & Conditioning) as the horizontal-power builder. Exploding off two feet into space is the same triple extension that drives a double-leg shot, a closing step behind a cross, or a burst out of an opponent’s range. And the stuck landing teaches what every fighter needs: producing chaos, then instantly owning stillness.

How to Structure Your Broad Jump Training

Program Broad Jump early in the main block of your session, right after the warm-up, while your legs are fresh: 4–5 sets of 3–5 jumps, resting a full two minutes between sets. Power work is not conditioning — every jump should be at or near maximum intent. When jump distances start dropping within a session, the power work for the day is done.

Common Mistakes

Not sticking the landing. The landing is half the rep. If you stumble or step out, the rep taught nothing — mark it, walk back, repeat the standard.

Jumping for fatigue, not power. Ten sloppy jumps build neither power nor fitness. Three to five violent, clean jumps per set is the entire prescription.

Skipping the arm swing. Arms contribute real distance and rhythm. Swing them hard back, then hard overhead — the jump follows the arms.

Landing on stiff legs. Locked knees send the landing force straight to the joints. Sink and absorb, every single rep.

Safety Notes

Jump on flat, dry, grippy ground — rubber matting, track, or court. Never on wet tile, sand, or slopes.

Warm up the ankles, knees, and hips first: easy squats, pogo hops, and one half-speed rehearsal jump.

Keep the landing zone clear for two full meters beyond your best distance.

Stop if you feel sharp pain in the knees, Achilles, or lower back — power work with pain signals is how small issues become long layoffs.

Coaching cue: “Load the spring, throw the arms, fly long, and land like you own the ground — two feet, soft knees, dead still.”

Benefits

As part of the broader 200+ FCS exercise library, this drill is the standing long jump in training form, built on explosive strength principles while targeting the specific demands of the Strength & Conditioning phase. It builds rate of force development — the quality that decides who lands first — while doubling as a readable power test: your distance is your progress, no lab required.

From a logistics standpoint, no equipment and no training partner are required, so it can be trained entirely alone — a few meters of clear ground is the whole setup.

That combination of low logistical overhead and clear technical standards is exactly why this drill earns a permanent spot in the Gooart Space 200+ FCS system rather than being a one-off novelty movement: it can be trained consistently, tracked over time, and progressed safely as your overall combat fitness improves.

Programming & Progression

In the 200+ FCS framework, Broad Jump is programmed early inside the main workout block of a session, when the nervous system is freshest and every jump can be a real one.

At the intermediate level, the execution standards above stay non-negotiable — power drills only build power at full intent, and fatigue turns them into something else entirely.

As you progress, the natural next step is to increase distance within the same rep counts, then add a weight-vest or single-leg landing variations much later, but only once every rep can be performed to the standard described earlier on this page. Revisit the Common Mistakes and Safety Notes sections regularly, since fatigue is usually what causes technical standards to break down first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Broad Jump suitable for beginners?
Broad Jump is classified as intermediate in the 200+ FCS system — jumping and landing load the knees and ankles in ways daily life never does. Own your squat before you own the air.

What equipment do I need for Broad Jump?
Nothing beyond your bodyweight and a few meters of flat, grippy ground. A tape line or chalk mark helps you measure, but even that is optional.
